An eventful week.

When we waved goodbye to our bike bags at Tullamarine. Little did we know it was for real.

We arrived at Nice airport to discover our bike bags were still in Melbourne. Lodged a complaint and recovery request in French with Baggage Services (not easy after 48 hours with little sleep).

Thankfully we had put tracking devices in our bags, so we knew when the range of conflicting information we received from Qantas was partially correct.

When Qantas refer to their "Customer Service", they have neither of those things in mind.

There, got that out of the system....

Picked up our enormous car to transport all the luggage we didn’t have, and 45 minutes later we arrived at Fayence, our perched village home for the next six months. A massive volvo 7 seater SUV not the easiest car to navigate the narrow, winding roads here.

Relentlessly

Lovely

So, down to living.

Paolo our landlord met us at the house and gave us a tour, emphasising the typical and ancient features (beautiful) glossing over the cheap and ancient fittings and appliances (alas). The place looked and smelt like it hadn’t been tenanted since winter and hadn’t been cleaned since the last guests departed. So we stocked up on cleaning products and set about cleaning and rearranging to meet our needs.

Saturday morning we visited the local market, spent a fortune on salami with white truffles and compte, sipped espresso and ate croissant. Feeling like locals already.

Made the all important purchase of a machine a cafe, then set out to source some good beans. Yet to realise our perfect coffee. But it is work in diligent progress.

Three days later our bikes arrived.

A trip into Nice while we had the car and visit to the flea market.

Ate the richest risotto à la truffle at a typical restaurant, walked along the beach, too cold yet to attract bathers.

Then the next day back to Nice to say goodbye to our unnecessarily wide car, and train and cycle back to Fayence (along with every other car in southern France, it seemed.

Then, making the most of a fine day on Thursday, out and about to Bargemon and Seillens

The weather turned from Friday, with the temperature not getting above 9 degrees for three days, but still stunning...
